Beaches Bitches

Well we decided on pizza for dinner. I do not know why, but I was thinking, we would make it. Either frozen or just make the crust and voila! I was surprised when Patrice came walking in with two pies. We sat down and enjoyed a cheese pizza and a meat pizza. They both had olives on top (about 4/7 each pie) and neither had a crust. It is funny how things are slightly different from what I am used to. Apparently he picked them up from the Pizza Truck in town. Unlike Vallabregues, their truck comes every day. It was a good dinner.

Julie and I began our conversation, that lasted for several days, on some stereotypes of America/ns. She started with “why do people not like NJ?” she pointed out that in the two or three television series that she watches (How I Met Your Mother, Sex in the City, Gossip Girl) they all have mentioned how much NJ sucks. I tried to explain it, although it is very strange how people in France get the idea that NJ sucks from television shows. I explained that NJ is very diverse for the small state that it is and the location and refineries that make it smell when you enter as well as the high taxes. Personally, I love NJ, just not the people or taxes.

We then discussed fraternities and sororities for being more than just a place to party, have sex and drink, but that they have that stereotype for a reason. We talked about how we really do have prom with the ball gowns (and slutty attire) and limousines, the parties afterwards, she asked why so many girls say that they want to be a virgin until they are married but are portrayed like a slut (Brittany Spears was her argument example), campfires and smores (yes, we really have campfires, you should try a smore), and how to pronounce “beach” so it does not sound like “bitch” (this began since she told me that Marseille had very nice bitches.” Oh and I almost forgot! We of course spoke of the famous McDonald’s that almost every French person has mentioned to me.

It was an interesting conversation, as I loved to hear what they know/hear/think of America and vice versa. After dinner it was very very late and so we all headed to bed.
