I arrived at the entrance and read the prices. 7,00 for adults, 4,50 for those 18-25 living in the EU. I figured I would try it and practiced what I would say before I got to the ticket window. “Bonjour, un s’il vous plait.” She told me 7,00 and I responded with “je suis 25.” She asked for ID, oh poop! I figured I would go with it though and gave her my Georgia driver’s license. She looked at it for a while then said “bon” and asked me for 4,50, wahoo!
After I got my ticket I drank some water and then looked at my driver’s license. It did not say USA, but it was clearly written in English. I was not sure if she even knew where my date of birth was as there were three or four dates on the card and it was written dd/mm/yyyy. Oh well, it worked, who cares?
It turns out that Glanum is an old Roman city. It was much bigger than I expected and it was cool to see. At first it was hard to really imagine it for what it was but after reading the signs, it pushes your imagination into action. There was a market area, a house with a pool for rainwater, an overflow pool, and a canal type thing for extra overflow to wash toilet remains away. All of the gutters in the streets were covered with stone slabs and the thermal bathes were heated with fires and bricks. I climbed a mountain, as I thought that was the next arrow’s direction. It wound up giving me beautiful views of the city remains and even St. Remy.
