Crepes with Lucille

We headed home for a while and just relaxed. I was getting hungry and it looked like we were beginning to head out to Lucille’s for some crepes. We packed a bag of sliced turkey, sugar, nutella, butter and eggs and headed out. Lucille lives in the center of St. Remy and she actually has a wonderful view of the City Hall from her apartment window. She had a nice little place and with her roommate being in China, she was relaxing.

We went to work in the kitchen cooking up some onions, peppers and making the crepe batter. I was told that the brown crepes were bought and would be used for the meal while the batter we were making would be the dessert crepes. Lucille is from Normandy, which is known for having the best crepes. She put some liquor in the batter and then they added lavender honey to the onions. They (Lucille and her friend Laura) were trying to make a kind of onion jam, they did not really make a jam but whatever it was, was good.

I was given my options of the crepes and picked turkey, cheese and onions. Everybody else was putting an egg into their crepe like Christian had done in St. Sulpice sur Leze. I took note and then Julie asked me about cider. She was very excited that we were going to have some and asked if we had it in America. I said yes and explained how I used to work on an orchard and it was delicious. Around 9:00 we all sat down for crepe #1. When they took out the cider I immediately realized they meant hard cider and not just normal apple cider. The crepe was yummy and the cider was strong. I was glad that I had a small glass.

When we finished, we all headed back into the kitchen to make the next round of crepes. They did a great job of cooking up 3 crepes at a time in 2 pans and my second crepe consisted of turkey, egg, cheese and onions. Everyone else was having about the same only with peppers and ham, no turkey for them. We sat down for crepe #2 around 10:00. Why do I know this? I was tired and could not believe how late it was! Anyway, we all enjoyed our second crepe and second glass of cider…Julie enjoyed it a lot and got into a few giggling fits. Lucille asked for the rum and Patrice past it to her with a confused look until she explained it was water in the rum bottle, ah yes.

We then headed into the kitchen for our dessert crepes. We stood around making the entire batch and sat down for dessert at 11:15. I filled my crepe with blueberry jam, it was so good I cannot even tell you. Everyone switched it up on their second crepe and put in raspberry jam or nutella, but I went back to the blueberry, it was unbeatable. At 12:15 we headed home, exhausted. I was not sure how Patrice would make it up at 7 but was happy that I would be able to sleep in. When we got home Julie and I discussed my plan for tomorrow, deciding to leave the house around 8 so that Julie would not be late getting to work after I was in Fontvielle, I guess I was getting up early too…
