Red Mountain's Majesty

Before lunch they offered me some aperitif, pastis to be exact. They said I had to try, even if just a sip, to say that I have tried it. They poured me a small bit and it looked like whiskey. Julie added water to it and it turned a milky color. I felt stupid that she added water to it and I thought she was just trying to make it diluted for me but she did the same for Patrick. I took a sip and it tasted like the anise shot that I had taken in Germany. After my sip I was good and Patrick threw out both of our remaining liquids, he had some so that I would not drink alone, so nice.

For lunch we had a zucchini, eggplant, tomato and ground beef baked dish topped with cheese. It was good. After lunch Julie changed out of her heels and we headed out. We stopped in the middle of the street fair, which had not begun for the night. Apparently it was the town’s fete and tonight was the last night. We were waiting for Julie’s friend, Lucielle.

I would like to take a second and point out that most of the cars here are two door and everyone gets along fine with them…okay onward with my story. Lucielle was very nice and knew English very well also. I asked her where we were going and she told me to a beautiful town. We past the Pyranee mountains which as just crazy amazing. I mean I am used to mountains looking like a volcano big base, pointed top, the end. These were like bobbing heads, super cool.

We got to Roussillon and got out. We were going to a National Park with “red rock” actually it is ochre. The calcium turned the rocks colors and it was beautiful. We took the 1 hour hike and slowly enjoyed ourselves. The French were all about touching the rocks, climbing on the rocks, and picking at nature. I saw almost every item that we were told not to do, being done. Anyway, the most amusing thing that I saw was the kids that were climbing the rocks and running around…they were orange. Like bad spray tan-Manalapan orange. I give these parents credit, I would not let my kid get into my car covered like that!
