I woke up at five and laid in bed. It was nice to be able to sleep in late, even though it was early…very early. I stayed in bed and when I decided to get up I decided not to; Patrice was getting up for work and I did not want to make him late for work by being in the bathroom. After that I had the same dilemma with Julie. I thought it would be nice to eat breakfast with her but I did not want to go down in my pj’s and so I waited for her to leave before I got ready. I think I will shower at night from now on.
Everything was laid out for me for breakfast. I enjoyed it and found where the bank was located and got my map of the town. Then, I looked at the museums that I was interested in going to on a rainy day; despite it feeling beautiful just cloudy. I forgot, all of the museums are closed on Monday, I guess today will be my exploration day!
I cleaned up breakfast and headed to the door. Julie told me that I needed to turn the key twice to unlock and lock the door…I could not even turn it once. I spent about 20 minutes trying to open it and then went on the computer to email Julie. I decided not to call her just yet. I headed back down and tried again and voila it opened, I just needed more force.
I was happy grabbed my stuff headed to the other side of the door to lock it and…nothing. These skeleton keys are hard work! I could lock the door when it was not closed and I could open the door from the inside now. I just could not lock the door from the outside. I spent about 15 minutes trying to do this. Between the warm weather and my frustration I was getting hot. I decided to leave it unlocked and I locked the shutters. I figured just to explore near the house.
I walked down the pebble path that seemed to be the street. I found some tree with oranges, no peaches, no…I got up real close to figure it out. They looked like persimmons but honestly I have no idea what they were. I walked to the end of the street and got a fig from the “grows like weeds” fig tree. Then I turned around. I decided to try to walk into town but the main road was not a safe street to walk on. I took the first side road and walked down it for a bit. Very quiet and nice, lots of gardens and there was a little canal that ran along the street. I got to an intersection where some crazy dog came running and barking after me, luckily he saw me after I had walked far enough away and the dog did not follow me or attack me with anything other than words.
The weather was like hurricane weather. Really warm, sky filled with clouds, and lots of wind. It drizzled on and off but then it began to rain. I turned around and prayed my umbrella would not break or blow away. I made it home and set the table for lunch as Patrice and Julie should be back around 12 for lunch.
Things I saw: persimmon tree. I have not seen one of those yet. I cannot remember ever having one although I know that my mom used to get them sometimes. I also saw an olive tree with green and black olives. This answers some of my questions about the two coming from different trees or not. I guess the black ones are just more ripe. I still do not understand how they can go from the tree to being eaten. Aren’t they softened in vinegar or something?
