I decided that I should not go back to the hostel yet and decided to get some gelato instead. I found the well known Gom, but the line was way out the door and I was not up for the wait for something that could be found on every street. I found another place and got pineapple and hazelnut. Both were delicious and I found a spot near Gom and a church and sat. The church was having a free organ concert but I could not go in with my food. The gelato was very good, but I need to do a better job of getting complementary flavors! I sat on the steps and enjoyed the sounds of Mozart and other famous composers. The music vibrated through the church and the streets. The concert was over aand the service began…the priest was CRAZY! I wish I taped him, but honestly he scared me. Arms waving, yelling, screaming – I felt like I was being damned to hell and I was just sitting on the steps OUTSIDE of the church….
I walked around to for many a while and then it was time for dinner (it is a good thing that I walk so much, because I eat a lot on the trip). I picked a place right by the hostel Nema (I think) and headed in. It was really nicely decorated and I got a seat near the door as it looked like it was going to rain. I ordered gnocchi with tomato sauce and mozzarella; although it was not as good as the one I got in Pisa, it was very good. I was happy to have a good meal in me and then headed to the hostel.
Anyway, I got back and my two Asian roommates turned into three. They were all from South Korea and were talking with each other and I passed out. This is not usual as the lights were on and people were talking (and I had no ear plugs!). Perhaps them not speaking English had something to do with it…and the fact I was tired. The next morning I said how surprised I was at how quiet it was and I was told it was not and I just slept right through it…
