My Favorite Find

I woke up late (the first time I was able to sleep in!) and mapped out where I would explore today. I decided that there were many piazza's and small gardens throughout Firenze that I would check out, so my adventures began.

I headed north from the hostel and stopped off at Firenze Fiera, but there was a wall/gate and I did not think that I would be able to get in. I decided to take some pictures and explore the new streets and then head to Orto Botanico. It was not much of a garden so I continued on to Piazza della Liberta. There was a great fountain and arch there but the people who were hanging around were a bit too scruffy for me. I kept walking and crossed Torrente Mugnone. There was a little bit of water below, enough to support a turtle and some really big fish. I was surprised nobody was fishing there but it was not really a spot to fish.

Onward to Giardino dell’Orticultura. It looks like a pretty big park on my map but really was not. There were statues of horses other wild animals and then a really nice gazebo but nobody was in it. I came to the back of the park and it looked like there was a butterfly garden. You had to pay to enter and I was not sure what it was. There was jazz playing and the people that were going in seemed to be in nice attire so I skipped that one. I could not see in due to the fact that they had fine nets on all of the windows and so I walked back by the gazebo and took a seat. I listened to a couple of Italians talking and even though it did not sound like my grandmother, it reminded me of her accent a little bit.

When I had had enough I began my walk to the next spot, Parco di Villa il Ventagio. In order to get there I had to cross railroad tracks. I was looking for a road/bridge to take when I saw a sign for pedestrians (near Via Manelli), I followed it. I would like to take a minute and tell you this has been my favorite find of the entire trip (yet). In case you have not been able to tell with my random postings of graffiti, I like graffiti, I feel like it really takes an artist to have something good come out. Anyway, I headed into a tunnel basically and there was graffiti everywhere; not the stupid side of the street a word or two, but the ones that are pictures and designs and all sorts of stuff.
