After the bridge we found a couple of restaurants but decided to keep walking. We came across a winding road and decided to investigate. I was a fool for thinking that my workout for the day was done. On our steep climb we did pass some windows that had delicious smells coming from them.
We got to a cross road and asked a couple if they were going to see a view. They said yes and went one way; we decided to follow. We kept going up until we started to go down. It was a shame that we had walls all around us and could not see anything. I did not like the fact that now we were going down and the sun was setting...not to mention that all of the cars were going in the opposite direction. One of the french books that I read before my trip had a story about a guy who drove to an island when all of the cars were leaving...well when the tide rose the entire island basically disappeared and he was stuck. I decided we should head back.
We went back to the cross roads and took the other road for a bit and then decided we did not want to be stuck with no sun so we headed to find some food. On our steep climb down we passed by the smells from a window again and deliberated knocking and inviting ourselves for dinner, we decided against it and figured we would just ask a local.
We found a guy headed to the street we were leaving and asked him (okay Nicole asked him in her broken Italian). He gave directions and I was completely lost but Nicole seemed to know where to go. We skipped the fresh fish place and were worried about finding his other place. A lot of the local restaurants here do not have a name outside and so you only know if it if you have been before. We asked the vendor of gelato and he gave us directions to a place near our hostel.
The name of the restaurant means golden balls (an fyi). It was such good food! We split a salad and ravioli stuffed with spinach and cheese in a creamy red sauce. Then we ordered gnocchi in pesto. Let’s just say, we licked our plates clean. Nicole got a white wine and talked me into trying it, she said it was so smooth and the best she has ever had. I tried it, but did not like it. Overall though, delicious and fabulous day!!
