The French Trains

Without being able to control it (believe me I tried) I missed lunch yesterday. I wanted to go to a nice restaurant that I found for dinner, but I was not sure if they would take my credit card, since I had no money. I decided to stick with the hotel buffet and it was HORRIBLE. I mean my first meal in France should be spectacular, amazing, tongue dripping with spit amazing, but it was not...Due to the pressure of being asked what type of meal I wanted, I wound up paying about $30 for some dried chicken skewers with sundried tomatoes, two cucumbers, a tower of purple mashed potatoes with rice on top, and three french fries.

I was tired and there was not much to do, so I went to bed at 9. I was up by 12, checked the internet, and forced myself back to bed. Woke up at 4 and was on the internet talking to loved ones until 7, when I showered. I skipped breakfast at the hotel due to the food last night and caught the shuttle to the airport, where I would catch the train to Paris, the actual city part.

In the airport I made friends with Caesar, who is from Texas, who I approached after I heard him speaking English to the information desk. I helped him out as he is traveling for two weeks and has done no research. We got metro tickets (I got the “Paris Visite” which lets me use the trains, metro, etc, as much as I want for five days. I bought a separate ticket into Paris as my “unlimited rides” did not include those from the Airport) and were off on the train. The first one had someone playing an accordion, he was upset after nobody gave him money though. I said goodbye to Caesar and continued to my next train. I have traveled a lot and taken trains but I am no pro. I go to NY and always let someone else deal with how to get where. I know how to get to the city and how to read the times...that is is. Luckily, I bought the ticket that let's me ride as many trains as I want, as I went backwards and forwards a couple of times. I now officially feel like I am a pro to get anywhere in Paris, using any of the four train/bus systems.
